Company founded in 2003
The story of Jean-Benoit Bourrel and his team began in 2003 in the Cha Yuan network, created in Lyon (France) by Nadia Bécaud. Very soon, the number of the St Jacques street in Lille becomes the place to be for the tea lovers of the city. In 2004, Jean-Benoit hires about twenty students, particularly from the famous EDHEC school, to run the Chinese tea pavilion located on the front of the Opera during the whole of Lille 2004, a year long festival corresponding to the nomination of Lille as the annual Cultural Capital of Europe. The regional and international audience will long remember this Pavilion offered by the city of Shanghai as one of the most striking memories of Lille 2004 European Capital of Culture. In 2009, Jean-Benoit and his team start a new adventure by locating another tea house in Brussels in Belgium, near the famous Châtelain, at the number 97 of the Bailli street. In 2010, the sale of Cha Yuan encourages Jean-Benoit and his team to launch their own brand and trademark in France: that is how Unami was born in July 2011! The large range of products is expanding, and the offer of organic and fair trade products is growing with about forty references, in all families of teas. Premium teas of guaranted origin, particularly from China and Japan, are also more numerous, and are presented on the website by terroirs.
In 2012, to meet the strong demand, Unami launches the online store www.unami-store.com.
